Over a decade ago, M. Lamont’s (2009) article, “Gender, Technology, and Libraries”, reported that there is an underrepresentation of women as first authors in library technology journals. Her findings presented a broad view that spoke of gender disparity and concluded that libraries have a dichotomized workforce, which consists of women librarians and men who are IT workers.
This webinar will discuss my research study, which replicates Lamont’s (2009) research. I use current publications (2018-2020) and textual analysis of library technology journal article abstracts to find what technology themes womens’ voices are present or absent. During this webinar, we will explore the findings of how women’s voices are being represented in library technology publications and determine if gender disparity continues in library technology publications.
