Digital Challenges: Reflecting on the Mellon Project Experience at UO

The presentation will be a reflection on the experience of UO Library and Museum employees with regards to the Mellon Project, which aimed to bring Library and Museum resources together for faculty-led digital projects that helped present research to a wider audience--we hope that our reflections will be useful for librarians and curators considering their own digital projects.
This presentation will focus on the results of that research. Attendees will learn about tools to build outstanding collections that include indigenous perspectives. The session will explore ways to identify and evaluate Native American and Alaska Native resources. Additional, the presentation will discuss Ms. Blackson’s experience as a Smithsonian Fellow and information on Smithsonian Fellowships available to librarians.

I am Tom Fischer, an MA student in the Asian Studies Program at the University of Oregon; I chiefly research modern Chinese political history and have been working as a Graduate Employee for the Mellon team these past two years.
